The vast majority of the material listed in this inventory was the gift of Patrick T. Conley, Associate Professor of History at the College. Professor Conley, the leading scholar on Rhode Island constitutional development, was a research staff assistant at the Convention, and he also led the movement for ratification.
Realizing the important academic value of the subjects considered at the Convention, Dr. Conley kept a meticulous file of its proceedings and debates. These records he graciously deeded to Providence College in 1971.
