This collection was donated to Providence College in August, 2017 by Dr. Carlson R. Chambliss of Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He is a professor emeritus of Kutztown University, where he taught physical sciences - particularly astronomy - for numerous years. He also is extremely active in stamp collecting, and over the years he developed a particularly outstanding philatelic stock and collection of this very popular nation. This collection is housed in two volumes, and extensive commentaries are provided on many of the issues. The postal system of the Vatican City State began in 1929 with the signing of the Lateran Pact with Italy, and since then a wide array of issues depicting all aspects of history and culture that relate to the Roman Church and to its role in world affairs have been released.
