2014 Cleary Lecture: Prospects for Peace in Colombia by Virginia M. Bouvier
The second annual Cleary lecture featured Dr. Virginia Bouvier of the United States Institute of Peace. Bouvier discussed the role of civil society and faith-based organizations in Colombia's peace process. Dr. Bouvier is senior program officer for Latin America. In 2012-2013 she served on the United Nations Standby Team of Mediation Experts. She is a long-time observer of the Colombian peace process, including the talks currently taking place in Havana, the most serious initiative in ten years to try to end the half-century long Colombian armed conflict between the government and FARC guerrillas. Bouvier is also the editor of Colombia: Building Peace in a Time of War.
