The Once and Future King, part 1: Arthurian Ghost Stories
Subject Area
Humanities
Description
This is the first of a two-part series with Dr. Christopher Berard dealing with medieval stories about King Arthur. It's also a Halloween special. In this episode Chris talks about medieval ghost stories that feature King Arthur and his knights. We begin with Chris’s suggestion that King Arthur as the once and future king is a ghost story. We discuss whether Arthur will return as a ghost or a revenant. Among the other stories is one in which Guinevere and Gawain encounter the ghastly ghost of Guinevere's mother in what is a medieval version of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."
