For over half a century, popular culture has depicted nuclear energy as something to be afraid or at least prohibitively cautious of. This is thanks to the conflation between nuclear bombs and nuclear reactors, and hyperbolic depictions of various nuclear threats found in popular movies, television shows, and video games. Specifically, the portrayal of nuclear energy in media such as Godzilla, The Simpsons, Fallout, and Call of Duty, influence and might significantly color the public’s perception of nuclear energy. This paper suggests nuclear energy has been misrepresented in popular culture.
