The goal of this project is to construct a pilot study that expands on Dr. Joanna Morris’ existing research on language and examines how certain complex words are processed in the brain. Dr. Morris has already developed a central research topic about the brain processes behind comprehending complex words. She has recruited students to join her in the Human Psychophysiology Laboratory and aid her as she continues her research project. I aim to help Dr. Morris in all aspects of the research process including design implementation, data collection, and data analysis. The research question I will examine is: are there differences in how readers process the structure of words and how does the brain respond to different words? Answering this question will provide a strong foundation for future research on language and provide insights on how the human brain processes words.
