Description

In this video I want to bring awareness and understanding to families and caregivers on what paradoxical lucidity is. Paradoxical lucidity is a common phenomenon in older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of end stage dementia. Where, despite severe brain deterioration, some individuals experience spontaneous moments of clarity, awareness, or recognition, which often resembles who they once were. So, while Alzheimer’s disease and dementia gradually take away what makes a person recognizable, and for loved ones, it can feel like slowly losing someone who’s still right in front of you, it is important for families to know that this phenomenon can happen. Recognizing it may help loved ones respond with peace and acceptance rather than fear, sadness, or confusion.
