During 2020, our research group applied group theory to topological spaces, focusing on 1- and 2-dimensional orientable surfaces without boundaries. As part of the research, students apply knowledge from calculus, geometry, linear algebra, abstract algebra, general topology, and algebraic topology. The students established a relationship between the order of these symmetry groups on VnS1 and Tn. Mathematicians can use these results to classify different classes of surfaces, which is a significant area of interest in topology. Their result is now a 151-page paper entitled “Classifications on VnS1 and Tn via Symmetry Groups” that is ready for submission for publication.
